Pisces III: How A Pro Wrestler Reminded Me that astrology is too real

This morning, I woke up to my partner watching a video of John Cena on last night’s WWE RAW, denouncing the audience for their lack of appreciation—“25 years doing everything (he) could have possibly done (for the audience), and it was never enough…” He lamented how they take and take, and after everything he’s done, all he gets in return is awful treatment.

My first thought? That sounds like Pisces III.

I had no idea how good it was going to get.

The third decan of Pisces is ruled by Mars in both major systems of decanic rulership. Its central themes revolve around sacrifice, devotion, and the willingness to give everything in service of an ideal—or, as Austin Coppock puts it in 36 Faces, a “vision of perfect success.” A natural byproduct of this decan’s formula is the potential for disillusionment when objects of devotion fail to meet expectations. In this decan, you find grand romantic gestures, knightly acts of heroism and charity, as well as raging martyr complexes.

Naturally, John Cena has Mars in Pisces III near his MC, ruling his 10th house of career and public image. He’s perfectly suited to the melodrama of professional wrestling, and all of Mars’s significations are on full display right now as the Sun, North Node, Neptune, and Saturn congregate around his natal Mars.

But the cherry on top? The recurrence transit of his natal retrograde Venus in Aries in his 10th house.

What John Cena did during his performance on March 17th represents what in wrestling is call a “Heel-Turn”—when a wrestler who had been previously portrayed as a Good Guy transitions into presenting as a Bad Guy within the ongoing storyline. During his 10+ minute speech, Cena declared that he was in a toxic relationship with each and every audience member—“including that kid over there” (Mars square the Moon)—and that he was breaking up with all of them. I can’t think of a better example of retrograde Venus in Aries speaking on behalf of Mars in Pisces III.

It’s also worth noting that Cena does extensive work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, visiting terminally ill children and fulfilling their final wishes. Pisces III is associated with the 10 of Cups in Tarot—a card signifying wish fulfillment and fleeting moments of perfect joy.

I can’t help but wonder how all this Pisces III activity—most notably Saturn and Neptune’s final hurrah before leaving Pisces over the next few months—is showing up for individuals at a time when many have invested emotionally, intellectually, and, in some cases, financially in public figures and causes promising a particular vision of “perfect success.” Many of these visions, however, appear demonstrably unmoored from reality. The influence of Rahu (the North Node) and Neptune suggests that some will cling even tighter to increasingly elaborate fantasies, especially as Saturn has few resources to make a convincing case for reality in Pisces. Given its lack of essential dignity here, Saturn may, in many ways, serve only to bind us further to whatever narrative we have chosen, false or otherwise.

But that could change when Saturn enters the final 3 degrees of Pisces, which the Egyptians said belonged to Saturn.

I’m something of an agnostic when it comes to bounds/terms—I note them when they seem to work and move on when they don’t. However, there is a natural logic to Saturn having some essential role at the end of Pisces. If the last decan of Pisces is where we go all in on a dream with nothing to go on but faith, perhaps the final bound of Pisces is where we find out whether that faith was well placed—when reality smacks us in the face with the final outcome.

At the time of writing this, that proposed moment of truth is still a month or so in the future, as Saturn will enter its Egyptian bound around April 22, 2025. But it’s worth noting, once again, the placement of the Sun, North Node, and Neptune within the WWE RAW chart—at 27°, 27°, and 29° Pisces, respectively.

John Cena’s public reckoning with the results of 25 years of fan service—though a theatrical performance appropriate to the nature of the planets involved—is nonetheless exactly the kind of thing we might expect within the last 3 degrees of Pisces. It’s a place where Saturn’s power to burst bubbles, crush dreams and punishing us for not living up to the hype should, in theory, be at its peak.
