The Fifth House - Good Fortune, The Joy of Venus

The fifth house is the zodiac sign that follows after the fourth, with an inferior trine with the first house. It represents that which you put forth in the world when you're inspired by passion, desire, and joy.

The fifth house is the joy of Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and harmony. It has a superior sextile with the seventh house, the house of "The Other." It is where you identify the object of your desire and seek to combine with it in pleasing ways. It's the house of making things happen, things that feel good and make you and others happy, like art, sex, dancing, babies, really cool haircuts, or a really interesting essay.

The ancient Greeks called the fifth house the house of good fortune. Planets in the fifth house tend to be a bit luckier than most, but sometimes what others call luck is just the stuff you're so good at that you make it look easy. And while your fifth house activities may not always be easy, it's a lot easier to be good at something you're interested in than something you find mind-numbingly boring. The fifth house is where you find everything interesting, revealing a person's style of learning and ability to absorb information.

The fifth house is nothing if not the house of children. Children are creations, usually cute, and a potential byproduct of sex. But they are also unrepentant hedonists of the highest order. Like children, the nature of the fifth house is playful and pleasure-seeking, sometimes needing a firm guiding hand to keep you from eating an entire cake or staying up playing beer pong the night before a job interview. But as with children, the fifth house is where play and learning go hand in hand, reminding us that there is nothing more natural and essential than following our passion
